What is Shamanism and How Does it Help Writers?

Shamanism is thought to be the oldest spiritual practice in human history, transcending borders and found in cultures throughout the world. Although many Americans equate shamanism with Native American beliefs, the near-universal principles and practices of core shamanism are not bound to any specific group or perspective. The techniques of shamanism have been used throughout the world by thousands of people for thousands of years.

The word “shaman” originates in Siberia and means a person who “sees in the dark with their heart”. It defines those people who have learned various techniques, including sound and the ancient method of the Shamanic Journey to change their consciousness and access the realm of spirit to obtain help, protection, healing, guidance, etc.

The spirits shamans access can take many forms – Ascended Masters (such as Jesus, Buddha, or Saints), Angels, God, Great Spirit, our ancestors, great teachers, animals, the elements, etc. The shaman has learned to access these benevolent and compassionate spirits to restore the balance that has been lost in people and on earth.

Shamanism is based on the belief that we are all one, that everything is alive and conscious and has a spirit, and that everything is connected. Because we are all connected, what is not working for one affects all. If there is fear, limitation, or blocks, everyone is touched by that low frequency energy, and for all to be restored, each individual’s energy must be restored. That is the path of the Shaman: To search for answers to restore health, well-being, and aliveness through the vibrational use of energy.

Shamanism provides a magical and powerful way to communicate with the divine forces of the universe, the energy of creation and transformation that exists around and within us at all times.

In my writing coaching, I access writing spirit guides to help my clients shift their energy, expand their creativity, and write in profound and transformative ways. If the client is willing, I also teach how they can access their own guides to discover their voice and style to produce exceptional writing that heals and transforms the writer and their readers.
